Lazing on the beach, strolling in the sands, go-karting along the dyke… There’s nothing more refreshing that a short break on the Belgian coast! So here are some suggested pairings of events and hotels to help ensure you have a pleasant stay with your family or friends.

BLANKENBERGE 

  • What to do
    Browse the evening markets, which are held every Wednesday in July and August, between 17:00 and 22:00. And if you’re in party mood, why not go and strut your stuff at the Beachland festival on 8 and 9 July. During this two days of craziness, the beach is transformed into a gigantic dancefloor!
  • Where to sleep
    At the Hotel Mercure Blankenberge Station, a sparkling new establishment – it opened its doors just a few days ago – located right next to the train station but still near the beach, with a heated swimming pool on the roof!

NIEUWPOORT

  • What to do
    Explore by bike or on footCome discover the lovely landscapes and villages (including Ramskapelle and Sint-Joris) of the hinterland’s polders. A more soothing and authentic area would be hard to find!
  • Where to sleep
    At the Hotel ibis Styles Nieuwpoort. Open since early June, this comfortable and elegant haven of tranquillity will in the coming months be unveiling its well-being space, complete with covered pool, sauna and Turkish bath.

OSTEND

  • What to do
    Marvel at the Sand Sculpture Festival, from 24 June to 10 September. To celebrate 25 years of Disneyland Paris, artists from all over the world will use sand to create 150 sculptures depicting characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. Magical!
  • Where to sleep
    At the Hotel Mercure Oostende, a luxury establishment just as suited to business travel as to leisure stays for the family.

ZEEBRUGGE

  • What to do
    Watch a film in the sand. Every Thursday in July and August, Zeebrugge Beach is transformed into an open-air cinema! On the programme are 3 screenings, at 14:30, 16:00 (for a younger audience) and 20:00. Please note: the screenings are free to attend but are only in Dutch.Visit a fishing boat at the Festival of the North Sea, sample succulent fish dishes, learn the techniques used to haul the nets, or watch the ‘Best Prawn Peeler’ competition.Whirl at the WeCanDance festival. Come and boogie on the beach to the sound of hip-hop, techno or slowdance, from 14:00 on 12 August to 01:00 on 14 August. A great ambience is guaranteed.
  • Where to sleep
    At the Hôtel ibis Styles Zeebrugge. Located at the heart of Zeebrugge port, this budget designer hotel offers views over the sea and harbour.

LA PANNE

  • What to do
    Take part in the great Rosalie” paper chase. Bringing the kids along? Then they’ll love the new digital challenge specially designed for them by the tourism office. Using an iPad, the aim is to find 10 locations by solving fun puzzles & games.
  • Where to sleep
    At the Hôtel ibis De Panne, a budget hotel set at the very centre of the spa town, constructed in the latest ibis design.

De Haan

  • What to do
    Have fun at the International Festival of Street Entertainment. Each year, the “Boulevard” offers high-level street theatre courtesy of the presence of troupes from all four corners of the world. On 21 and 22 July in De Haan, and 12 and 13 August in Wenduine.
