Last November, AccorHotels blew out 50 candles, marking 50 years of passion and innovation. On that special day, nearly 2,000 of the group’s hotels threw their doors open wide to welcome their own local heroes. We take a look back at an unforgettable anniversary.
50 years ago, the AccorHotels adventure began with the opening of the first Novotel Lille Lesquin in 1967… and since then, we’ve come quite a long way! Today, Accor has 4,200 hotels and over 10,000 private residences in 95 different countries, a team of 250,000 motivated men and women, and an unrivalled brand portfolio (from internationally renowned luxury, via well-known mid-range names, to highly prized budget chains). In short, the group has firmly established itself as a global leader in the hotel field.
Taking care of those who take care of us
For a celebration worthy of this jubilee, the group opted to “take care of those who take care of us”. Around each hotel gravitates an array of everyday heroes, men and women who actively serve the community 24/7: they may be firemen, nurses, teachers, craftspeople, retailers…. but they’re all local heroes who live, work and contribute in the neighbourhoods where AccorHotels are situated. In keeping with its core mission – to make everyone “Feel Welcome” – the group was keen to thank all these everyday heroes by arranging a special day for them.
An unforgettable day
On the day in question, nearly 2,000 hotels in 85 different countries took part in this major operation by inviting their local heroes to spend some quality time all together for a breakfast, brunch, barbecue, cocktails, a concert… Some were even offered a free night’s stay at their local Accor hotel! We’d like to share this memorable day with you, so why not take a look at the various social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and LinkedIn) of the group, brands and individual hotels, where you can find photos, videos and quotes from some of those involved. Here’s a brief preview…
